Introduction

This book will help you understand the fundamentals of math and low level programming for making games. I will explain all concepts in an informal style. Prior experience in coding is not necessary to follow.

Is This Book for You?

Yes, if you:

  • Like learning through exploration
  • Prefer small examples over long explanations

The aim of the book is to experience the joy of game programming. We will break down black boxes, struggle with exercises, and experience aha! moments. No AI. No shipping quickly.

Odin and Raylib

I chose minimal and joyful technologies. No magic or black boxes. Odin is easy to get started with and is fully equipped for building complex games.

If you programmed in C/C++ or Go, you will feel right at home using Odin.

Scope of This Book

This book will emphasize math and language agnostic concepts. As far as teaching Odin is concerned, I will explain enough to understand the examples in this book. You can read the Odin overview and the excellent Understanding Odin book to expand your knowledge of the language.

About Me

After spending over a decade in web development, I had enough. It is too repetitive and boring. I decided to pursue my childhood dream of making games. I am creating this course to improve my own understanding and to help anyone walking a similar path.
